Merry Christmas December 24, 2006

So, there is snow on the ground, although it is melting quite fast right now.  It will be a somewhat white Christmas eve.

The presents are strewn under the tree, except for what Santa will bring tonight.

Santa will be coming to deliver the gifts.  A good friend from the Ward has a Santa suit and will be delivering the gifts tonight.  Ashley will “catch” him here doing it.  It’s going to be pretty cool.

We thought we were going to have some guests for Christmas Eve supper, but they can’t make it.  We are going to take some food over for them instead.

However, for Christmas, we have invited a couple of ladies over for Christmas dinner.  They do not have anywhere else to go (well they should have, but their sister refused to invite them) so we will have them here.

This is turning out to be a good Christmas.  Of course, the final disposition of Christmas 2006 will be determined after the morning carnage is cleared away.

From my family to yours, have a Merry Christmas!

Why can’t they make a shopping free zone? November 24, 2006

Normally, I am not one to go running off to shop on the day after Thanksgiving.  However, I do need to go to Costco and Target.  Pray for my safety as I brave the wild shopping yonder.  I may come back bruised and battered after dealing with millions of zombies who got up at some insane hour this morning to try and get the best deals of the century.

Country religious music November 19, 2006

As we are getting ready for church this morning, we turned on some music of inspirational value.  Some of it is set in more modern styles, such as pop.  However, one that is on right now is of a country style.  I got to thinking about it and realized that there is very little “Mormon” music that is country.

Of course, here’s what would happen in country and western “Mormon” music.  Your spouse would leave you with the 7 children, the Bishop is upset at the talk you gave last week in church, the minivan broke down and your dog died.

Some things just don’t change.

We went to Joe’s Crab Shack for dinner tonight. Pretty good stuff, a little expensive, though. Anyway, the place is decorated up pretty good and the tables were fiberglassed with lots of stuff in them, pictures, patterns, little sayings and so on. This one just cracked me up. It’s a picture of a bunch of books with the following titles from left to right.

  • How to Pick up Women
  • How to Keep a Woman Happy
  • How to Keep a Woman From Leaving You
  • Dealing With Deep Depression
  • Can Stress Lead to Hair Loss
  • Considering the Priesthood

Grinches Anonymous November 15, 2006

I did not have a lot going on yesterday so I started getting the Christmas lights up, seeing as how it was dry and calm in the afternoon.  I managed to get most of the lights along the house up.  Some of it involves being on the roof, and it’s always best to do that when it is dry.  I ran out of clips, so I will need to get some more.  Of course, the lights will not get turned on until the day after Thanksgiving.  My lack of grinchiness this year does not go that far!

Speaking of the grinch, I have managed to keep my annual humbug somewhat under control.  I think a lot of that is because I have not gone shopping much and haven’t paid attention to the Christmas displays that always seem to pop up in August.  Maybe I will manage to get through the season without being a Scrooge.  Yeah right.

Slight change in plans November 15, 2006

There’s a slight change in plans for the new job. When I went in to Wells Fargo, my supervisor asked me if I would mind if they just cut me loose. I did not see any problem with that at all. So, they went ahead and processed me out. I called up my new employer and let him know, so I get to start the new job today. That does not hurt my feelings at all.

Simple Supper November 14, 2006

I was wondering what to make for supper last evening, and decided to go with something easy.  Beef in gravy, mashed potatoes, corn and bread and butter.  Nice and simple.  The beef and gravy is real easy.  All you need is a can of beef chunks.  I removed the large fat pieces from the top of the can.  Heat it in a saucepan, add some mixed milk and flour to thicken it.  Serve over mashed potatoes or bread.

I think this would work well with chicken, turkey or pork chunks.

This is a food storage meal that is quick (took me 10 minutes) and very tasty.

New Job November 12, 2006

That’s right, I have a new job that starts on the 27th doing computer and IT work.  It is about time!  Now, keep in mind that I have not been unhappy at Wells Fargo, but I have not been real happy either.  The people are fantastic.  The attitude is positive and supportive.  The people really want you to succeed and go far out of their way to assist in your career and job growth.  However, being on the phones talking with people about their bank accounts is just not my thing.

So, the job is working for Quick Computer Services in Meridian.  It’s a lot closer to home, pays better, and is 9 to 5, Monday – Friday.  Those are perfect hours for me, as I need to have Ashley on her bus at 8:40, I will get home in time to do stuff with the family, and there’s nothing wrong with making $255 per month more than now.  After 6 months it will be $600 per month more.  That’s a huge difference.

So, depending on if they will give me next Saturday off, I have either 6 or 7 days left to talk to people on the phone.  Who knows, maybe Wells will just cut me loose.  I wouldn’t mind that either.

I think it is interesting how things seem to work out the way they are supposed to if you do what is right, make your best efforts, don’t worry too much about time, and place your trust in God.
